Unwanted Guests

Alls I can say is at least they aren't in my apartment. :) At least that I know of... I have almost always gone in and out of my apartment entrance at the back of the building. I may be in the basement, but we have a ground level exit. This morning I was in a rush to get out the door as our fire alarm was going off in the building. Not only was I already late in waking up, but the moment I finished getting dressed was when I was supposed to be at work. After calling my boss and letting her know of my soon to be tardiness, I was startled by the sound of ear-piercing screeches yelling at me to vacate the premises. Having just put the last clip in my hair, I grabbed my keys and phone while running out the door barefoot.
This is when I met the unwanted guests. No more than two steps outside my apartment door (still inside the building) did I feel the grotesque squish of some sort of insect firmly beneath my heal. Clearly I was on a mission to leave the building as I didn't think about the squishing until I returned to the building when the all clear was sounded. Upon the re-entry I came across the remains that did not stay on my foot... the guts of a body and 8 legs spread eagle remain plastered to the linoleum floor.

I would prefer to not think about the possibilities of where this monstrosity's true destination was, or where it had just come from. My prayer is that his friends and family remain in the hall or outside the building from here on out. Should they breach this unspoken agreement, the next ear-piercing screech this building hears is going to be me screaming!
